Founded in 1988 by Jay Van Deusen, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Van Deusen Construction Company is a full service, Design-Build remodeling firm based in Bel Air, Maryland. The award-winning company specializes in remodeling and renovation of existing residential and commercial properties in Baltimore, Harford and Cecil Counties.
The firm offers a unique process called "Design-Build" which combines the design and construction process. Design-Build offers clients one point of contact and accountability for both the design and construction phases of the project. This ensures a smooth transition from design to construction and better overall cost control for Van Deusen Construction Company clients.
The Van Deusen Construction Company is a licensed and insured general contractor in Maryland (MHIC #33455).
Exceptional Customer Service
Jay Van Deusen and the entire team at The Van Deusen Construction Company believe that effective communication is at the heart of every successful client relationship. The firm is committed to making communication a top priority and maintains ongoing communication with clients throughout a project, including weekly production meetings with the client to update them on their progress and identify problems before they arise. A company newsletter is also sent to clients several times per year to update clients on company growth and new developments in the home construction and remodeling industry.
The Van Deusen Construction Company cares what its customers think and by relying on customer feedback, the firm is able to build a better business. Over the course of the project, clients are interviewed at least three times in order to gauge their satisfaction level. At the conclusion of each project, clients are asked to complete a report card assessing their experience and Jay Van Deusen shares the feedback with his team.
We think our best advice comes from our clients so in 2006, we joined GuildQuality, Inc., an independent customer satisfaction surveying firm, serving a nationwide community of homebuilders and remodelers. Through detailed surveys, we are able to assess our performance and improve our business. We take what our customers say seriously and also use this information to reward our employees.
In 2008, Van Deusen Construction was awarded the prestigious Guildmaster Award from GuildQuality, Inc., a distinction limited to a few companies that have achieved outstanding customer service among the over 500 companies that are a part of GuildQuality, Inc. nationwide.
The Guildmaster Award of Distinction recognizes that Van Deusen Construction Company, Inc. is among a select handful of GuildQuality members that have achieved a greater than 90% satisfaction rate among its clients. Van Deusen Construction also received the Guildmaster Award of Distinction in 2007. With the goal of 100% customer satisfaction in mind, we've worked to achieve one of the highest customer satisfaction rates among the GuildQuality membership.

The Van Deusen Construction Company has received numerous awards from the Home Builders Association of Maryland (HBAM) for the design and renovation of residential and light commercial properties. Most recently, Van Deusen Construction was awarded the prestigious Chrysalis Award for Remodeler of the Year, 2008 for the Northeast region. Awarded by a panel of judges from Southern Living and Better Homes and Gardens Magazines, the award is based upon a builder's past body of work and involvement in the community. In 2007, Van Deusen received first place from the HBAM Remodeler's Council for its 2007 Award of Excellence. The Maryland Improvement Contractors Association recognized the firm with three awards for various projects in 2007, including Best Residential Addition and Best Entire House Remodeling.
In 2008, Jay Van Deusen was awarded the title of GuildMaster by GuildQuality, Inc. and his work and business practices are features on their website. GuildMaster award winners are chosen by their ability to consistently demonstrate exceptional customer service.
In 1999, The Van Deusen Construction Company was named "Remodeler of the Year" by the Home Builders Association of Maryland. In addition, the firm was chosen as one of Remodeling Magazine's "Big 50" remodeling firms across the United States in 1998.
