Tudor Manor
The owners of this home in the Tudor Manor development wanted a new space that would cater to their love of the outdoors. Previously, the homeowners ate meals on their tented deck, weather permitting, in order to enjoy the views of their yard and the surrounding area. Looking for a more practical solution, they turned to Van Deusen Construction to create a new room for year-round use.
The result is this 16x16 addition that incorporates a new family room and breakfast area. Featuring a true cathedral ceiling and skylights, the spacious eating area seamlessly flows off of the kitchen workspace. The owners opted for Andersen gliding windows as well as quadruple French doors resulting in a light-filled, airy space. Two additional entryways were added to the rear of the home in order to gain better access to the outdoors and a stunning new Trex deck with white vinyl railings expands the home’s outdoor living space.
Challenges of the project included matching the rear of the home so that the roofline and existing windows could stay and the second floor of the home would remain untouched. Inside, Van Deusen worked to match the existing flooring so the new space would not be an obvious addition. The basement of the home was dark and uninviting so Van Deusen created a new 12-foot area way for entry from the outside. Two windows and a French door were also added to allow for more natural light.
