Bower Land
VDC earned a 2006 Award of Excellence for Best Outdoor Living Space from the Home Builders Association of Maryland for this impressive project on Bower Land in Forest Hills, Maryland. The owners were installing a pool and wanted to build a pool house and bar area to service the needs of guests, independent of their home. They also required an outdoor shaded roof to filter sunlight. During construction, VDC faced challenges such as an extensive network of underground utilities, plumbing and drainage specifications, as well as the coordination with the installation of the hardscape. The project, headed by Rob Johnson of VDC, resulted in a pool house and outdoor living area of superior quality and workmanship. The 20x24 cabana houses a full bathroom with its own heating and cooling systems, ceiling heights of up to 12 feet, a double layer of crown molding, and 8 foot windows with transoms and a French door. The exterior of the building boasts similar high-end features such as a metal roof, fiber-cement siding, recessed lighting, and stucco panels at the corners of the structure. Finally, the owners were able to realize their dream of a cedar pergola and stone-faced bar consisting of a grill, refrigerator, storage area, and granite-topped sink.
