Receives National Award for Remodeler of the Year
August 20, 2008
BEL AIR, MD — Van Deusen Construction Company, Inc., the Bel Air-based full service design-build remodeling firm, announced today that it has received a 2008 Chrysalis Award for Remodeler of the Year, Northeastern U.S. Begun in 1994, the awards recognize the nation's best remodeling work in over seventeen categories of remodeling in four regional competitions.
Judged by the staff of Better Homes and Gardens, Southern Living, and Woman's Day, magazines, and Homeplans.com, the Southern regional winners were selected from over 500 entries covering all types of remodeling projects. The entries were judged on overall design, the creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure. The Remodeler of the Year Award is based upon a builder's involvement in the community, the building industry, and their past body of work.
"It's an honor to be recognized by such an esteemed panel of judges and an exciting testimony of our work to win in this category. The Remodeler of the Year Award is a tribute to our entire team and speaks for the exciting collaboration we've shared with our clients," said Jay Van Deusen, President and Founder of Van Deusen Construction. Van Deusen Construction was awarded the title of Remodelor of the Year for the Northeastern U.S. not only because of its performance and community leadership, but also because of the recommendation of prominent community members. In recommending Van Deusen for the award, William Seccurro, President and CEO of the The Harford County Chamber of Commerce said, "Jay Van Deusen gives back to the community and shares his time and talent with others. I can think of no other remodeler more deserving of this title than [Jay] and his associates."
Some of the top remodeling firms in the country participated in the awards, which were presented on June 11, 2008 at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta during the Southern Building Show. In presenting the award to Van Deusen Construction, Ken Kanline, Director of the Awards said, "To win an award in this highly competitive category is quite an achievement."
This is the third year in which Van Deusen Construction has won a Chrysalis Award. In 2002, Van Deusen received the award for Best Design/Build Historic Renovation project. Van Deusen received a Chrysalis Award for Best Accessible Remodeling project in 2001. "To win awards in multiple years demonstrates their ongoing commitment to excellence," says Kanline. "Winning in several different categories, in addition to the coveted Remodeler of the Year Award is a real testament to this company's ability to perform consistently excellent work."
For the past twenty years, Van Deusen Construction has been a fixture in Harford County, and has played a vital role in the revitalization of the downtown Bel Air business district.
